How to do the Pickup

From a delay you set the bag, swing the support leg over it from outside to inside, and catch the bag on the toe of the foot that set it. The inward-swinging counterpart to the leg over.

STEP BY STEP

1. Start from a toe delay and set the bag straight up.
2. Hop off the support leg as the bag rises.
3. Swing that leg over the bag from outside to inside.
4. Plant it as it comes down on the far side.
5. Catch the bag on the toe of the foot that set it.

TIPS

• The catch is on the SETTING foot - that is what separates a pickup from a mirage.
• Plant the swinging leg decisively; a soft landing leaves you with no base to catch from.
• Keep the set close to your body so the swing can get around it.
